Review of Planning and Statistical Services - Office of the Vice Chancellor
Terms of reference
Background
The University has identified in its strategic Plan, ANU by 2020, the need for effective organisational structures and clear policies and procedures to underpin their activities. As such, it intends to interrogate its administration structures and its processes to ensure they are fit for their purpose. Planning and Statistical Services is located within the Office of the Vice-Chancellor and supports the University’s planning and its student evaluation process. Its core responsibilities include analysis and dissemination of corporate information for the purposes of institutional planning, management of the University’s student evaluation framework, and management of the University’s statutory reporting requirements for staff and student data. In addition, Planning and Statistical Services provides advice to the University community on Government legislation and policy relating to higher education administration and funding, and contributes to staff education and sector engagement.
Purpose
- Alignment of goals of Planning and Statistical Services with that of the University’s Strategic Plan.
- Review the Planning and Statistical Services fitness for purpose, that is, the quality, efficiency and effectiveness of services and communication between the Unit and the University community to enable the University to meet its strategic plan.
- Review the success of Planning and Statistical Services current continuous improvement strategies and assess capacity of future strategies to deliver improvements to strategic priorities and services, and the overall contribution to the University’s culture of continuous improvement.
- Review the effectiveness of Planning and Statistical Services strategies for staff recruitment, retention and development (including workforce planning) to meet the core business needs.
The review will report to the Executive Director (Administration & Planning) and will be undertaken by Ms jenny Vero, Director, Governance, Policy and Planning, Victoria University and previously Director of University Planning and Statistics, Monash University and Ms Julie Gorrell, Senior Projects Manager, Office of the Executive Director (Administration & Planning). The reviewers will engage with relevant stakeholders throughout the process.
The review will be undertaken during February 2012, including site interviews on 14 and 15 February and will report no later than 30 March 2012.
Making a submission to the review
The reviewers of the Planning & Statistical Services Division, will conduct interviews with key personnel on the 14th and 15th of February 2012.
The reviewers would also welcome written submissions to the review.
