Pro-Chancellor
The Pro-Chancellor is the deputy of the Chancellor on the Council. The office holder also plays an important role in ANU ceremonies.
Ms Ilana Atlas

Ilana Atlas became Pro-Chancellor of The Australian National University in August 2011, having been a member of the Council of the University since July 2004, and of its Audit and Risk Management Committee from September 2010.
After taking her law degree in 1976 Ilana Atlas commenced her legal career as a solicitor. From 1985 to 2000 she was a Partner with Malleson Stephen Jaques specialising in corporate law. She also held management positions in the firm including Resident Partner of the New York Office, Executive Partner, People and Information and Managing Partner.
In 2000 she joined Westpac Banking Corporation as Group Secretary and General Counsel, and from 2003 until her retirement in 2010 was Group Executive, People. In this latter role Ilana Atlas was responsible for human resources across the Westpac Group and for corporate affairs including internal and external communications, government relations and sustainability.
Currently Ilana Atlas is a non-executive director of the Westfield Group, Coca-Cola Amatil Limited and Suncorp Group Limited, Chair of the Bell Shakespeare Company and a member of Chief Executive Women.
Other positions held by Ilana Atlas during her career include: Chair of the Westpac Foundation, which assists not for profit organisations working with disadvantaged people and communities; Chair of the Westpac Staff Superannuation Plan; member of the Advisory Board of the The University of Sydney's Poche Centre for Indigenous Health; member of the Australian Taxation Office People Committee which advises the Commissioner on human resources strategy and issues; Director of the Business/Higher Education Round Table, a not for profit organisation involving business and the tertiary sector in policy issues affecting higher education; Governor of the Law Foundation of NSW; member of the Commonwealth Takeovers Panel; and Director of the Public Transport Corporation Victoria.
