2012 Elections to Council
Election of a Member of Council by the General Staff
The 2012 election of a member of Council by members of the general staff of the University was held in accordance with the Membership of the Council Statute and Rules.
Two candidates nominated for election to Council. Both candidates and their nominators were checked against the General Staff roll comprising those holding a full-time or part-time standard or fixed term general staff appointment in the University on pay day 1 March 2012 and who were paid a
salary by the University on that day. All nominations were in order. The candidates were Mr Matthew King and Ms Suzanne Mendez.
An electronic ballot was conducted, using the University’s APOLLO system. By the close of the poll, 301 general staff had registered a vote.
Mr King
appointed a scrutineer who was subsequently present during the scrutiny of the electronic count, conducted in the office of the Head of the Governance Office from 4.05pm on Friday 11 May 2012. Ms Leslie McDonald from the Governance Office was also present during the scrutiny.

on the count of first preferences were as follows:
Matthew King 206
Suzanne Mendes 95
I am satisfied that the election processes undertaken by the Australian National University were conducted according to the
relevant Rules.
I declare Matthew King elected.
