Structure & governance
ANU is governed by its Council. The Vice-Chancellor and University Executive provide day-to-day leadership, working with the heads of each academic college and service division. ANU has seven academic colleges based around core disciplines and themes.

Council
ANU is governed by a 15 member Council, whose duties include appointing the University’s senior leaders and overseeing its management. The Governance Office supports the Council and its committees.
The Chancellor presides over Council and other official functions at ANU. The Pro-Chancellor is the deputy of the Chancellor.
Governance
The Vice-Chancellor is the chief executive officer of ANU. Members of the Office of the Vice-Chancellor make up the executive leadership team.
Governance Framework
The Governance Framework provides the structure within which University legislation (the ANU Act, Statutes and Rules) and policy sit.
The ANU's delegations framework provides a guide to the distribution of authorities to University officers as determined in legislation and policy.
The Governance Framework falls within the auspices of the Governance Office.
Act
The Australian National University was founded in 1946 by an Act of the Commonwealth Parliament. It is a body corporate authorised by the Australian National University Act 1991.
