Association of Pacific Rim Universities

Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) is an alliance of leading research universities of the Pacific Rim established in 1997. This Association was envisioned by four Californian university leaders: President Steven B. Sample of the University of Southern California, Chancellor Charles Young of University of California, Los Angeles, President Thomas Everhart of California Institute of Technology and Chancellor Chang-Lin Tien of University of California, Berkeley.

As the only network of leading universities linking the Americas, Asia and Australasia, the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU) is the Voice of Knowledge and Innovation for the Asia-Pacific region. We bring together thought leaders, researchers, and policy-makers to exchange ideas and collaborate on effective solutions to the challenges of the 21st century.

APRU recognises that its activities can be powerful catalysts for expanding educational, economic and technological cooperation among Pacific Rim economies. The association seeks to promote dialogue and collaboration between academic institutions in the Pacific Rim so that they can become effective players in today's global knowledge economy.

APRU currently consists of 50 prominent institutions from the Americas, Asia, and Australasia. This Association provides the opportunity for a diverse network of research universities to come together for the advancement of Asia-Pacific Higher Education.
